Nobody takes myself and others seriously when I showed up at their door.

I work as a Heating, Ventilation, and A/C dealer rep, but I was over 3’ 10” tall.

I was more of a novelty to almost everyone and more than 2 seemed to think I was a child prodigy, then just once, I wanted someone to see myself and others as an actual Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier and not as a circus freak. She needed myself and others to help her with her smart thermostat. It was cold outside and I asked if it would be okay for our spouse to go in the cabin along with me. My boss didn’t mind if the homeowner didn’t mind. An hour later, I was at the cabin and replacing the thermostat. My spouse was talking to the owner’s spouse when the spouse tapped myself and others on the shoulder. He asked how someone like myself and others got a looker like this to marry me? He laughed and said he would have given his left leg if his spouse were that sexy. I felt sorry for his spouse.

I heard what sounded like Stephen King’s Cujo and not a puppy, barking at the door. I called the dispatcher to make sure she had given myself and others the proper address, but the owner had already opened the door. She apologized and sent the monster dog to his room. I asked if she had a puppy and she told myself and others he was a puppy. She apologized for his antics and asked myself and others to come in and she would show myself and others where her furnace was. I was hesitant walking into the cabin when there was a gigantic St. Bernard sitting behind her and only being held by a leash. She told myself and others he was still a puppy and he wouldn’t hurt a flea. When I was finished with the furnace repair, I knocked on the basement wall to get the owner’s attention. She had the pet on her lap when I got into the front room, and I refused to discuss the bill with her if he wasn’t in his cage. When she said she didn’t have a cage for him, I walked out the backdoor and said I would send the bill to her.

I thought it was supposed to be the spouse who had a difficult pregnancy, but I was wrong.

• My dad told myself and Pat that whenever she had an ache, I would have a pain, and I didn’t understand until a couple of days ago.

The doctor had told us Pat was close and it would only be a couple of days until the baby was born. I was still taking shifts at work, and constantly looking for her name to pop up on our cellphone. I soon realized that whenever Pat had a gas pain, she was calling myself and others thinking that she was in labor; After a week of this, I was getting to the point where I could barely concentrate. I knew that if I didn’t have a driver’s license because of my DUI, I wouldn’t continue our job as an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C dealer rep. Without a driver’s license, I couldn’t drive the maintenance van or get to people’s houses. I considered not saying anything to the boss of the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company, because I was afraid I would get fired if I got caught. I was talking to a few other techs and asked him what happened if 1 of the dealer’s were to lose their driver’s license. Bob said he had lost his once and the boss provided to help him get a provisional license that would allow him to drive only for task purposes. Bob told myself and others he was in a hurry to get his sibling back cabin before his spouse got angry. Bob got stopped by a police officer when he did a rolling stop through the stop sign and took off too suddenly. I couldn’t believe he lost his license for that. Bob said that he was speeding when he got to the stop sign, and the cop was already behind him. I told Bob I lost our license, but I wasn’t sure the owner of the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company would be so generous as to get myself and others a task license. I had been picked up for speeding and they did a DUI assessment. The other Heating, Ventilation, and A/C experts said they hoped I didn’t drive into task that day, because that would genuinely make the boss even more angry, then even if he had to ride a bicycle to work, the boss would put him in the back room until he got his license back.

He apologized to me, and said he would have the secretary call back as soon as she got back from breakfast. Less than an hour later she was calling myself and others and giving myself and others an appointment for just 2 days later. I was so angry that I told her what I thought about her leaving myself and others on hold and then going out for breakfast. She apologized and told myself and others she was very up-to-date in the office, but that didn’t make myself and others any less angry.

I had to hold Al’s hand while he stepped over the pipe and tried not to slip. I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do, despite the fact that Al was asking if I was going to help him. I tried not to laugh again, but just seeing the look on Al’s face, had myself and others giggling again. He told myself and others that if I wasn’t going to help him, I needed to get out of the furnace room. I walked out of the furnace room and leaned against the door. Two hours later, Al pulled the door opened and asked if I was done laughing at him. I tried to nod, but when I saw Al’s face and looked at the pipes, the giggles started up once again.
