My cousins were a bit skeptical when their partners asked if they could go somewhere for the holidays.

• Every year, they stayed home with the kids and opened presents on Christmas day.

However, this year their partners felt they should go on an adventure. This turned out to be the best experience, though there were some challenging moments. My cousins found a winter time holiday rental somewhere nice and calm. Luckily, the location was available, so they opted to rent it for a week. They packed up their things, and the presents and set off on a winter time adventure. The drive to this holiday rental wasn’t too bad, but there was so much ice on the road that their partners had to drive slowly. It took so long to get there, but the view on the way, and the adventure spirit was amazing. Plus, it helped that their SUVs had the best heating that kept them comfortable. When they arrived at the holiday rental, they chose to go to turn on the heating system, but nothing happened. It was already late so there was no way to get anyone to inspect it at that second. Fortunately for them, they had packed space heaters so they used all 4 of them that night. The following day, my cousins spoke with the rental agent about the faulty heating system. She was apologetic, and went ahead to hire an Heating & A/C tech to check it out. It didn’t take long for a Heating and A/C tech to come by, do a bit of repair and leave the machine running. The heating system made Christmas day blissful, and that was the best experience ever.

It took hours to get there, but the view on the way, and the adventure spirit was amazing. Plus, it helped that our SUV had the best heating that kept us comfortable. When we arrived at the vacation rental, we went to turn on the heating system, but nothing happened. It was already late so there was no way to get anyone to inspect it at that hour. Thankfully, I had packed out space heaters so we used all 4 of them that night. The following morning, we spoke with the rental agent about the faulty heating system. She was apologetic, and went ahead to hire an HVAC specialist to check it out. It didn’t take long for a HVAC specialist to come by, do a bit of repair and leave the unit running. The heating system made Christmas morning blissful, and that was the best experience ever.

Owning a home at the beach seems isn’t cheap and needs a good investment.

But, to be honest, it’s the best thing ever.

I get to wake up to the sound of the ocean, and the birds in my trees. Plus, most evenings I get to watch the magical sunset that happens on the horizon. However, there’s another side to living so close to the water. I came face to face with this each year when it was hurricane season. Though I am not in the direct path of hurricanes, I get the after effect. The rain, water, and so much debris that washes up on my beach. With climate change, things seem to be getting worse, and I got to see that this year. There were hurricane warnings all over the arena, which was too close to home. This had me scared because this hasn’t happened before. Luckily, the freak weather happened away from my area. But it was strong enough to knock the power off. I never went without A/C at the beach home for more than a day. However, it was 3 afternoons before I had power back, and could use the A/C to keep my home cool. This whole incident had me thinking about the future. Now I’m in the process of getting a generator to ensure I have electricity even when the power is out. Plus, I am looking into reinforcing the property just in case I have such exhausting weather next summer. A beach home without A/C can be a literal nightmare given the heat and humidity I get in summer.

I am still paying off my debt and I am unemployed.

I am beginning to see that I am the foolish one in this story. You see, my friend and I met in middle school and we stayed friends. In high school, when everyone was talking about careers and their futures, I asked my friend what he was thinking of going for. I was expecting something reasonable, like a doctor, engineer, professor etc. Instead he told me he was going to be a HVAC technician. I still remember snorting in disbelief. Of all of the things he could be, why would he choose something lowly like a HVAC specialist? Worse than that, he was going to go to a trade school instead of a proper college. I couldn’t help but to shake my head. I was going to college to be a history professor, so it was obvious that I was going to be doing the better of the two of us. Both of us graduated, although he graduated earlier than I did. He was now officially a certified A/C specialist, and I had my degree. Years later, he has a high paying job, as HVAC specialists are always in demand. He has a nice home and is not in debt. I am still paying off my debt and I am unemployed. It turns out a lot of people want to be history professors. I now see that I was wrong all along, my friend intelligently chose a career that was always going to be in demand, and was crucial in some places. I chose something that could be discarded rather easily. Maybe I should consider being a HVAC technician as a career.

I was surprised to see that the empty building across the street actually had some life in it.

That building had been abandoned for at least 6 or so years.

A lot of the former businesses did not do well in that area, and would have to shut down. The owner of the property had trouble renting the building out, and I guess he just gave up and abandoned it. But seemingly overnight, the new owners had the building cleaned out and looking nice. Although they hadn’t put up their sign yet, I could already tell what kind of business it was. It is a heating and A/C business. I could tell by the numerous HVAC vans and A/C trucks parked close by. This was fantastic, we actually really needed a heating and air conditioning company in this town. We only had one A/C dealer originally, and since they were the only one, they were charging an arm and a leg just for their HVAC services. This new cooling company will be fresh and hopefully offer cheaper prices. The best part is that they are within walking distance to me. So if I ever need heating and A/C repair, or HVAC maintenance, or really any kind of HVAC service, the cooling tech can be here in minutes! It is fantastic that there is a new heating business, and I have no doubt they will thrive here since we are lacking in HVAC businesses. Too bad I don’t need any A/C services any time soon, because I would like to try them!

Quality heating and cooling

For some time now I’ve been considering switching to a geothermal heat pump instead of using my traditional heating and air conditioning system.

The reason I have been considering getting a geothermal heat pump is because I’m looking more and more into going green. Geothermal heat pumps may be more expensive when it comes to up front cost however they not only last much longer than a traditional heating and AC system, but they are much more energy efficient. A geothermal heat pump is installed underground and he is transferred using liquids that flow through the pipes on the ground. I wanted to learn as much as I could about geothermal heat pumps before I started thinking about purchasing one from my local heating and AC business and so I did a lot of looking into them and one of the things that I found out that was an extra bonus as to why geothermal heat pumps are great is that they can also increase your indoor air quality. I’m tired of always having to worry about my traditional central air conditioning system and heating system breaking down on me. It’s not having to constantly have them maintained and tuned up. This is not the case however with a geothermal heat pump. I’m seriously considering getting one because as far as I see it the only real downside is that you have to pay more upfront, but for how great the thermal heat pump is I think it would be worth spending the money.
