Today is my eight year anniversary with my husband.

Every year we go to a movie and get a stub with the date on it. I have a sub for every year we have been together. From our first date until now I have the ticket stub. Pretty cute right? It is interesting how much we have changed over the years and how the date has evolved. I remember the first date we went to an expensive restaurant and my now husband picked the movie. Dinner was expensive and I didn’t finish my meal. The movie my husband picked was horrible and the theater’s heating system was broken. We ended up freezing the whole time. Eight years later we have our priorities straight. Rather than pay for a dinner that will stink, I cook a nice meal at home. We can eat in comfy clothes and have the HVAC set the way we want to. The two of us then go to the movies and see what was reviewed best. Unfortunately this time of year means only horrible movies are out. We just missed the before Thanksgiving release of good films. So we decided that seeing something horrible, might as well be comfortable. The two of us wear sweatpants and coats so the theater AC doesn’t freeze us. We get lots of snacks and talk during the film. It makes for a fun evening out. We usually grab a drink after the film before we head home. A little night cap to make it fun.

 

Heating and cooling service

When I lived in the north, going to the mall meant going to a large building and shopping inside.

You were subjected to whatever the mall decided the heating and cooling system should be set to.

The high end stores all had their own thermostats and would blast AC in the summer and heating in the winter. Other than that, everything was the same. Now that I live down south, shopping is different. Outdoor malls are common here and they are amazing. I now can actually dress for the weather and be comfortable. In the winter I wear all my gear and don’t have to lug it with me when the store turns on their heater. In the summer I can wear shorts and only be frozen out by the AC when I walk into the stores. Most of the time I am outside. The food options permit outdoor seating as well. It is a way better way to shop. The thing that blows my mind though is the high end stores with outdoor malls. They still blast AC in the summer and heating in the winter. I noticed that this one purse and watch store cranks the AC and leaves the door open. I think feeling the blast of cold air conditioning is supposed to lure me in. I just keep thinking about hte energy bill for that store. It must cost a fortune to waste that much AC. I would rather pay less on a purse and sweat while looking at it honestly. Those poor workers must hate working in that air conditioning.

My fiance doesn’t have the greatest parents.

They divorced when he was young and are both still bitter.

They also are selfish people who have never really done anything for him. It makes sense to elope and throw a party for our wedding afterwards. My fiance is insisting on inviting his parents even though they haven’t done anything for him. His father has already complained about the cost and about where he could stay. The man is coming though. His mother definitely is trying to get my fiance to pay her way to the wedding reception. She just called him rencelty and tol dhim she can’t afford to come. Her excuse was that she had a very expensive furnace repair and now doesn’t have the money. I looked it up, the average heater repair cost is around 300 bucks. To fly to our state is around 300 bucks. So that means she was planning on squatting at our house for a free room, board and meals. She also was planning on my fiance driving her everywhere. We will be newlyweds, I don’t want my mother in law at my house during that time. I also find it shocking she doesn’t have 300 bucks. What kind of adult can scrounge together that kind of money? The most a furnace repair can be is around 500 and then you are looking at replacement. Still, a heater repair should not make or break a person at all. I think she is lying about it. I bet her heating system is fine and she just doesn’t want to buy her own flight.

My husband is a bit of a hot head when it comes to certain things.

• He has a temper and it can flare up when things don’t go well.

That is why when I do any sort of remodeling, I do it myself or hire out. My husband can’t handle it. I vividly remember him taking a sheet of drywall and throwing it across our yard. He also will punish his tools by leaving them outside in the rain. Seems more like he is punching himself right? Anytime something breaks in the house it is awkward. My husband feels like he should be the one to fix it. He frequently breaks whatever he is trying to fix due to his temper. He was so rough on our stove that I had to get a new one after he tried to fix the display screen. I noticed recently that our HVAC system won’t turn on. I have changed the air filter, checked the condensate drain and the fan inside of it. I don’t really know what the issue is. I am guessing something like too much dust or it needs more refrigerant. I have been calling the HVAC business near me to have them send a guy over. I won’t get a HVAC technician until the end of the week. I have been trying to hide the fact that there is no HVAC from my husband. I don’t want him to start tinkering with our machine. HVAC equipment is so expensive. I can’t afford a new HVAC unit at this time.

I am getting married in three weeks and going off on my honeymoon. There is so much that I need to do beforehand. I need to get my dress altered one more time. I need to resize my wedding rings and buy better make up for the day. I also need to do all the legal paperwork to get married and pack my bags. I already arranged for my cat to be fed, plants to be watered and the house to be checked on. I have a few appointments that I need to take care of in the three week time though. I have a hair appointment and a dentist appointment. Right now I am messing with my local HVAC company trying to schedule a tune up. I want to get my heating equipment serviced before I leave. It is old, dusty and worn out. It wouldn’t be completely out of the blue if the heater just stopped working. I don’t want to leave and then come back to an expensive heater repair. I also don’t want to leave my cat in an unheated house. It makes sense to get heating service beforehand to ensure that everything is okay. I can get any heater repair they want and have peace of mind knowing the heater is doing okay. I am being greedy and would like to have ductwork cleaning as well. While they are there why wouldn’t I? Three weeks isn’t a whole lot of time when you think about it though. I am running out of time if I want all this done.

My husband and I are going on a week-long trip for our first year wedding anniversary.

I want to make it special for us. We are going to a different state and planning to hike, shop and do some wine tours. I booked us dinner at expensive restaurants and booked fancy accommodations. I decided to do two nights in three different locations. Each accommodation offers something different. I got us a pricey hotel in the city that has a spa, steam room, fitness center and a pool. The other is a honeymoon cottage on a dairy ranch that overlooks amazing sights. It has a cute little stone fireplace, homemade quilts and has a rustic feel. The last accommodation is an airbnb in the woods that is a giant house. The whole house has heating flooring in it though. I will admit I did book it for the view and for the heating system. I did some research on heated flooring and it sounds amazing. I like the idea of having heated feet when I get out of bed. I love being barefoot and being able to walk around barefoot in the winter sounds great. The cabin also sits on top of a hill overlooking a beach. My husband and I can enjoy our heating system while looking at the waves and gorgeous foliage surrounding it. I think it is going to be an amazing trip. I was initially worried the cold and need for hotel heating would be a problem. I don’t think so now.

I made the mistake of hiring a handy guy to install a ductless heat pump in my kitchen.

Since the guy was sometimes subcontracted by a HVAC company, I figured he was legit.

I let the guy choose the ductless heat pump for my kitchen. I told him I wanted it installed on the wall that my old ventless heater used to be. I wanted the outdoor unit not visible from the road. Well I was gone the day the guy did the HVAC installation. He took the money and ran afterwards. The ductless heat pump was installed right above my kitchen windows. It looked terrible! The outdoor unit was clearly seen from the road and I saw visible wiring. I also noticed the way the refrigerant tubes were set up seemed wrong. It seemed like the water that drained from the HVAC would drain into the foundation of my home. That seemed like a really bad idea. The heat pump didn’t even turn on where I could test it. I tried calling the guy, emailing him and finding his house. I never got anywhere. The guy just totally screwed me over and I was out a ton of money. I had to call a real HVAC contractor and that guy was disgusted by the shoddy workmanship. He didn’t even like the heat pump the guy chose for me. The guy ripped it out and redid everything. I am out a ton of money for this project but the end result is good. I did eventually get everything I wanted.

My whole family is in the grape business.

• My father owns a bunch of vineyards and picks the grapes to sell for jellies, jams and grape juice.

My brother opened up a winery right on the fields and uses the grapes to make his products. Everyone in the family helps out in the grape business. The winery needed a lot of help in the early stages. Getting the building setup was expensive and time consuming. I know my brother had a real hassle with HVAC too. With the wine making process you want to keep the product at a 70 degree temperature. With our northern climate, that means you need both heating and cooling. A hardcore heating system is needed for the winters taht get in the -20s, but the summer does get into the 80s as well. My brother thought he could cheap out on HVAC. He bought a basic heating and cooling machine off the internet and then hired a handyman to install it. The guy installed the HVAC right by the front door to save on work and wiring. It looked terrible and it ran even worse. The inside temperature could barely make 70 degrees and the HVAC died after only a few years of use. The second time around my brother did it right. He called a real HVAC business, bought one of their products and had a heat pump installed in his facility. The HVAC works perfectly fine and hasn’t been a problem since. It keeps the whole space the right temperature year around.

I’ll be the first to divulge that I don’t assume much about fireplaces, even though I l acquired a lot after I purchased a apartment that has a nice fireplace. For starters, I didn’t assume that you’re supposed to have the fireplace cleaned thoroughly every year. This is to prevent all the creosote buildup that can cause chimney fires. The firewood naturally releases the creosote plus there’s nothing you can do other than to keep everything cleaned. It was funny when I first tried to build a fire in the fireplace, my wife had to ask what in the world I thought I was doing. I was building it teepee type like I did back when I was in boy scouts. She said I couldn’t build the fire like that, it would honestly tip over plus possibly cause a fire in the house. I don’t assume what I was thinking plus not to mention, there was a fireplace grate that is used for holding the wood so there is satisfactory oxygen flow to keep the fire going plus not produce too much smoke, then my wife was the one who showed me how to stack the logs appropriately because she was raised in a apartment that had a fireplace. She said she loved our new fireplace plus missed the outdated one that she had while she was growing up. Well, I think that if every one of us continue to live in this home, our children will learn how nice it is to have a fireplace as well, plus eventually when they move out, they might think about the memories she shared around the fireplace.

I truthfully never would have imagined that I would be out in the country splitting wood correctly for the Winter time season.

I mean truthfully, every one of us get a unbelievable amount of snow plus cold weather around here.

Every one of us have a reliable boiler system, however every one of us also have a legitimately nice fireplace. Every one of us make sure to have a chimney sweep come out correctly to make sure our fireplace is in excellent shape. Ever since every one of us first started using the fireplace, every one of us totally fell in like with it. The comfort it brings is better than I would have expected plus I truthfully have a unbelievable time splitting wood these afternoons. I love it because I assume the comfort it is going to bring us every Winter time season. There’s a pretty unbelievable lumber locale every one of us buy our wood through too. They bring the outdated wood plus they have a reasonable price for a large bundle. It’s enough to get us through the Winter time season, plus all every one of us have to do is chop the wood for the fireplace. There are some Winter time seasons where I imagine every one of us could potentially get through the entire Winter time season with just using the fireplace alone, however admittedly it does get frigid in strange corners of the house, so every one of us have to continue using the boiler system, then of course, the more every one of us use the fireplace, the lower the heating bills are plus so that is another large motivation for me splitting as much wood as I can, so that every one of us can get through the Winter time weeks with minimal energy use.
