Our renter is jacking up my energy bill

Owning rental properties can be a great thing for investing in the future, however, when you live in a double and rent out the other half, it can be a hassle as well.

This is mostly because you see your renter on a afternoon-to-day basis and know everything that they are doing.

If you hear a loud crash or see something that is damaged you may tend to overreact. This is the case with my hubby and I because when my friend and I decided to purchase our first dwelling my friend and I knew my friend and I wanted something that would help pay the mortgage. My friend and I decided that purchasing a duplex was our best choice and for the most part it has been. The rental agreement that my friend and I have with our renter includes the cost of heating and that became a problem, however when my friend and I first bought home my friend and I were renovating it so my friend and I knew that heating both spaces was extravagant but felt that it could be kept under control. When’s our first renter moved in my friend and I realized that my friend and I no longer had the ability to adjust the temperature on their side and my friend and I found out that they were using way more energy than my friend and I had done. My friend and I decided to talk to his Heating as well as Air Conditioning supplier and see if there was some way to have a programmable system put in that my friend and I could adjust when needed. My friend and I had a talk with the renter and told his that my friend and I would be controlling the temperature and ask them what they wanted it set at. When he told us that he would like his home to be at 75° my friend and I told his that was unsatisfactory, however he did not like the freezing Winters but my friend and I told his that if he wanted his venue to be that sizzling he would have to pay his own energy cost. This made a giant difference in his choice and he agreed to keep it at 69 instead.
