The HVAC service van was running, but empty.
I got home from work, and I saw the HVAC service van sitting in my driveway.
When I got out of the car, the service van was running, but there was no one inside.
I hadn’t called the HVAC company, and even if I had, why was the service running and empty? I was almost afraid to go to the house, because what if the HVAC service van was a ruse and someone was inside my house? I went to the neighbor’s house and asked if the HVAC technician was there? She said she wasn’t expecting an HVAC technician, and I pointed out the window. She also thought it was odd and told me to stay there. Her husband would be home shortly, and he could check it out. About half an hour later, the HVAC service was still in my driveway, and my neighbor’s husband was home. I told him what was going on, and he headed to the service van. He pulled the door open, but there was no one inside. He was worried there may be something wrong with the HVAC technician, but he was AWOL. He went around to the backyard, and there he was lying on the ground. When he got closer, he saw something on the HVAC technician’s chest. He couldn’t believe it when he saw a rattlesnake quietly lying there just looking at the HVAC technician. He grabbed a rake and swept the snake up and threw it into the field. The HVAC technician was terrified. He realized he was at the wrong house when he got into the backyard. He turned and almost stepped on the snake, then stumbled and fell. He had been there, with the snake on his chest, for almost an hour.
