Last month, I was watching the morning news will getting ready for work.
I couldn’t believe that the local gym where my kids and I went swimming, had suffered extreme damage from an overnight fire.
What really sickened me with this news, was the fire has been deemed arson. I couldn’t understand why someone would want to torch a local gym that so many children benefited from. The local gym had a basketball court, swimming pool, a boxing ring, and offered nutritional programs and babysitting programs for afterschool I couldn’t help with the basketball court, swimming pool, or boxing ring, but I could help with some of the babysitting programs, and the yoga classes the local gym offered. My husband and I had been planning on selling our five-bedroom home now that all of her children were grown and on their own. I had a huge backyard with a jungle gym, and it was all fenced in. I thought that if they could have the regular caretakers come to my home, they could use the backyard and two or three the bedrooms for their afterschool programs. I already had a yoga studio in my home, and I could easily offer that up for the yoga instructor to do her classes from. Although the local gym wasn’t there any longer, that didn’t mean these people didn’t have any place to go. My husband agreed with me that it was the least we could do to help the community that had helped us so much when we needed it. We aren’t the same as the local gym, but it gives them an option.
