A patron contacted myself and others last week, and she wanted to set up an appointment for a free consultation for an air filtration system. She told myself and others that she had a child that was suffering from dust sensitivities. She easily felt that the media air cleaner or air filtration system was medically necessary. I had to go to the address to make a determination. I consulted with the homeowner for a few hours and then I started with our work. The first locale I started wasn’t the heating or a/c. It was certainly the air duct. Many indoor beach house air problems start and end with the air duct. It should be a closed air system, but the slightest problem can cause an enormous amount of dust, dirt, and debris to enter the system. I guess this could have been the problem that the patron was experiencing. I had to check on the air duct to be sure. My suspicions were certainly confirmed after looking at the air duct. It was around 20 years old and there were multiple areas where the air duct needed to be reaffixed. It’s no wonder the person was having trouble with the indoor air temperatures. She was only receiving about half of the air that was coming out of the a/c. After suggesting the air duct cleaning, the person still wanted more information on an air filtration system. I certainly didn’t suppose it was necessary if she had the air duct scrub and sanitized, but I still offered her an quote to have the work completed. I will not tell a patron no to extra services.
