The company tried to bill us for both of the furnaces

My business has two separate locations.

  • There is a location of town near the airport and there is a separate location downtown by the train station.

A few months ago, the furnace in the downtown shop had to be replaced. I called a commercial repair contractor and we settled on the terms and price for the furnace replacement. The guy showed up for the job with a furnace that was not what I ordered. He apologized for the confusion. He wrote the order incorrectly. He had the new furnace the following day. The single-day delay did not bother me and I was just happy to finally have the furnace fixed and working properly. I don’t usually pay for HVAC repairs when they are made. Because I have a commercial account, I pay each month and receive an invoice. I was surprised by the invoice that I received from the furnace installation contractor. We agreed on a price tag that was easily several thousands of dollars lower than the invoice. I called the owner and operator of the furnace installation contracting business and he gave me the number for the bookkeeping business. I thought it was strange that the owner of the company didn’t handle his own booking keeping, but I am more meticulous at record-keeping than other people. When I spoke with the bookkeeper, I found out exactly why the bill was so high. The company tried to bill me for both of the furnaces. It took a few hours to sort out the mess, but I wasn’t going to pay the bill until it was correct.
