Smart thermostat helps to conserve energy

With three kids involved in sports and full-time jobs, my husband and I are busy.

  • It’s difficult to find the time to buy groceries, mow the lawn, clean the house and get the laundry done.

We seem to be out of the house more than we are at home. Neither of us could remember to adjust the thermostat before leaving in the morning. Most of the days, either the furnace or air conditioner would run all day, working to keep an empty house perfectly comfortable. The energy waste was costing us a great deal of money and putting needless wear and tear on the workload of the heating and cooling system. On the rare occasion we remembered to lower or raise the thermostat setting, the whole family would come back to a freezing or overheated house. Our thermostat was downright ancient. It wasn’t programmable or able to provide any function but manual adjustment of temperature. I started looking into modern thermostats and was amazed by all of the helpful features. Today’s controls are wireless and allow access through an app on the smartphone. I chose a model that includes learning capabilities. For the first week after installation, the thermostat kept track of every adjustment we made. It learned our typical schedule and preferences and created a schedule to accommodate our lifestyle. The thermostat automatically adjusts in the morning when we leave to conserve energy and welcomes us back to the ideal temperature. It sends me reminders when it’s time to schedule maintenance, energy saving tips and alerts if there’s a power outage or temperature fluctuation.
