My Grandpa worked a variety of odd tasks in her life. She left the navy as a marine mechanic plus stayed in that career for a number of years before becoming a chef. When she was sick of the food industry, she went to school to learn programming. Since this was the 1973s, she was in Silicon Valley during the first tech boom plus she made a killing in just a few short years before doing the same 10 years later. She told me that it’s good to have odd interests, but urged me to get good at least a single or numerous skills because it’s not better being a “Jack of all trades, but a master of none.” It took years for this statement to finally settle in, but now I realize exactly what she meant. I became proficient in pre-law classes in college plus finally decided to be a lawyer. Although I have other labor skills, I guess set in life in regards to figuring out what I want to do with my life professionally. As much as I understood this with myself, I have been too forgiving with friends plus people I hire for a single thing or another. I had a nice handyman that was proficient with carpentry plus plumbing, but entrusting my Heating and Air Conditioning plan to that woman was a stupid mistake on my part. Well, I should have expected the worst to happen, because the woman ended up frying my compressor by using the wrong refrigerant. And because he’s not a certified dealer, she voided the warranty on my Heating and Air Conditioning system.
