Life has been tough this summer.

I should’ve known better than starting a roofing company a few years back there will be times when I might be working 60 plus hours a week.

It is excruciating because I’m in the sun all day long and it’s put a toll on my body. I work so much that my sleep is very minimal. I’m slightly scared that I will fall off a roof someday and that’s it, I’m dead. I drink far too much coffee and my family only sees a portion of it. I think I down about 8 coffees a day. So if I don’t fall off a roof then maybe I’ll have a heart attack because of all of this. I know this is an unsafe amount I’m drinking but I need to keep pushing forward until I get more roofers to work for me. It’s hard to find good people that you can trust to do the job correctly. My family sees the exhaustion that I have and there is nothing I can do to hide it. Yesterday I had a scary moment. I got all fuzzy in my head and blacked out. I woke up early today and they said I slammed my face into the window air conditioner. I was a little out of it because of the medication but they said I had a little concussion and they are just keeping me at the hospital until the doctor says it’s ok to leave. My son told me that our neighbor, John, the HVAC technician is taking care of the window air conditioner because I guess I hit it so hard it fell out of the window. I’m glad we live next to someone who works for the HVAC company but I need to get more roofers so this doesn’t happen again.

Dad has been working a ton over the past few weeks. You can tell it’s been taking its toll on his body. I see him drinking about 5 cups of coffee a day and that’s before it’s noon. I’m only assuming he drinks more than that in the afternoon. I guess that’s what happens in the summer owning your own roofing business. He would be doing better if he had the staffing but he doesn’t so he is constantly working. I wish I could help him but I’m only 11 and I’m terrified of heights. He is the world to me but hopefully, when I get a little older this fear I have goes away. I try putting myself into situations where I can try and drive that fear away but someday, hopefully. Today we were having a conversation, I should say barely a conversation because his speech was a bit off due to the lack of sleep. It was around 10 am and he was going to get his 4th cup of coffee and all of a sudden he lost balance and his head went straight forward, right into the window air conditioner. My mom ran to him immediately and you can see the fear on her face and I started to tear up because I was so confused. What just happened? The window air conditioner popped out of the window and fell to the ground outside. His head hit it that hard. Mom called the ambulance as dad was unconscious. The ambulance came and our neighbor, who is an HVAC technician said he will look to make sure the air conditioner is ok and don’t worry about it. I’m glad we have a cooling tech that lives next to us but our focus is my dad.

My boyfriend, Eric, and I have been together for about a year now.

He is the kindest, sweetest man I have ever met.

He has told me in the past he went through a gauntlet of women and couldn’t find the right one until he met me. I kind of found that to be a lie but a year has gone by and his longest relationship before me was 3 months. The only thing that I’m not a fan of but someday I think we’ll get there is that he doesn’t let me turn on the air conditioning. He just doesn’t like the cold which is unfortunate but it’s not a deal breaker. He lets me eat all sorts of ice cream and the freezer is stacked with whatever I want. If he didn’t let me eat whatever I’m sure this relationship would be over a long time ago. So I guess a positive is that we never need to call the cooling company and we never have to invite a cooling technician to our place. Still, it’s been a year and no other issues. I’m not a fan of his brother who sneaks over at times but in general, he is nice. Also don’t like that he sneaks into my ice cream! I can see this relationship continuing but I am definitely going to be using the air conditioning in the future if he wants it to last. I do love him and I’m starting to get tired of taking cold showers as well. Ice cream is something I can see myself eating for the rest of my life but I know someday I’ll start to gain weight from it and that I can not let happen but then again, I might be very happy and comfortable by then.
