We have a humidity problem in the basement

My partner as well as I have owned our house for just over 20 years now, and both of us have several fond memories in this house as well as it pains us to suppose about parting with it. However, the house is getting to be too sizable for my partner as well as I. He has a difficult time getting up as well as down the stairs. It would be better for both of us if my good friend and I lived in a one-story home. My good friend and I haven’t listed our house yet but I’m sure my good friend and I will soon. However, my good friend and I do have one problem: that is the basement. It’s unquestionably humid in the basement as well as this has caused some detriment down there, for example, the carpet smells easily questionable as well as there has a little bit of mold on the walls. My good friend and I can certainly get current carpeting as well as paint however I do not want to supply a current family an aged headache. By that I mean I do not want to sell our house in exhausting condition to somebody else. My good friend and I want them to enjoy the house as much as my good friend and I have. My good friend and I have tried putting dehumidifiers in the basement to help with the humidity. Those worked but my good friend and I keep forgetting to empty out the water so they stopped laboring. My partner commanded that my good friend and I put an air conditioner in the basement to take care of the humidity, but after all, air conditioners were initially invented as dehumidifiers. So my good friend and I got a little window a/c unit as well as my good friend and I put it in the one window in the basement. We’ve left it running non-stop as well as it does seem to be helping. Even the smell is mostly gone out of the carpet now. I’m thinking my good friend and I might just need to rent a carpet cleaner as well as do a little bit of painting as well as the house will be ready to go on the market.
