Dad said I’d make an excellent heating and cooling specialist

Dad has always been a hard man to please.

He isn’t mean or anything like that. In fact, he is one of the gentlest men I know. I think he just grew up at a different time. So, it’s never that easy for him to express his emotions. Well, having four daughters has sort of trained him to get in touch with his feminine side. Our mom never once believed dad would wear nail polish to work and not mind what other people said. My sister and I had started playing with mom’s nail polish, so she bought us some kid-friendly ones. We were playing and dad came into our room to check on us. Next thing he knew, he had me painting his fingernails and my sister working on his toes. We made him promise not to take it off, and he gave us his word. Apart from playing with nail polish, we also got to learn crucial skills like fixing things around the house, and working on our cars. As we grew up, dad would take us to his HVAC store in town to help with cleaning and inventory. He said working in the HVAC store was a good way to learn how the real world operates. So, each summer, we had jobs at the HVAC store, and we actually loved it. Well, not all the time, but it was fun earning some money. Years later, I chose to go to get my HVAC certification and start working as a heating and cooling specialist. I remember during graduation dad was teary-eyed since I’d chosen to follow in his footsteps. He even said I’d make an excellent heating and cooling specialist.
