It’s critical to do the winter prep to maximize HVAC efficiency

That requires plenty of work to provide all of that firewood

While I’ve never lived down south, I’ve vacationed a few times for sure. Boy, if I could substitute their winter for ours, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Last time we vacationed in the South was in February and the dang heat pump didn’t even come on the whole time we were there. And this was in a rental house. The weather is just spectacular down there in the winter time. We enjoy a break from all the heating or what the gas furnace has to do each winner by visiting the south. It is nice to visit there but it’s not where we want to live as we are from the north. Plus, I think all the HVAC cooling would get on my nerves after a while. Up here, it’s all about good heating and preparing for the winner each fall. Of course, I have the HVAC professionals come out to take care of the HVAC equipment every fall. To do otherwise would be stupid. The HVAC company does a great job of prepping the gas furnace for the load it then faces when the temperatures fall. It’s nice to know that the gas furnace will run efficiently and reliably throughout our long cold winter. But there’s more to winter prep than just the heating maintenance from the HVAC technician. There’s also a wood stove that works as a secondary heat source and emergency heating if we need it. That requires plenty of work to provide all of that firewood. I also spend the fall making sure the house is sealed up tight in order to maximize the heating efficiency of the gas furnace.
