After high school, I had difficulty convincing my parents to let me go to trade school.
It was more affordable to study a trade than go to college.
After getting advice from my uncle, I had opted not to follow the trend. Instead, I wanted to learn more about HVAC systems. At that time, my uncle was one of the best AC experts in our town. Seeing how much work he got was a significant influence on my decision. Finally, I won the discussion and went to trade school. Even before graduating, I had a job in my uncle’s company. Our first AC installation project together was at a local boutique hotel. It was the fanciest place in town and gave us plenty of work. First, we had to set up the HVAC duct systems. At the same time, my uncle showed me how to select the right commercial air conditioner for such an establishment. The whole experience was an eye-opener as I got to learn more about air ventilation units. After ductwork, we went to work setting up the central heating and cooling unit to serve the whole building. There was no room for error, so my uncle was meticulous in his work. I learned during that project why he was the trusted AC expert in the area. Not only did he conduct proper HVAC installation, but he would come back later to do regular maintenance. The hotel owner was satisfied with the work and contracted the AC company for more work at other hotels he owned. Soon we had so much work that my uncle opted to employ more air conditioner mechanics to cover the workload. My parents were in awe of the growing business and knew I had made the right decision.
