I had no reason to run away from the law.

It seems that every time I turn on the news, all I hear is how someone broke into someone’s home and stole something.

I’m sure some of the break-ins were people who couldn’t find work and needed money to support their families.

This doesn’t make it any better because no matter how you slice it, it is still illegal. Personally, I would rather go on welfare than steal from someone, but not everyone feels that way. Last week I was talking to one of my neighbors and he told me he had a window air conditioner he was trying to sell. He said he had only used the air conditioner a couple months and he was willing to sell it for half of what he paid. I believed in helping my neighbor, so I bought the air conditioner. Two days later I had the police knocking on my door. I didn’t have anything to hide, but I also didn’t want to talk to them since they weren’t wearing masks. When I heard them knock again, I opened the door. They saw the AC unit and asked where I got it from and why I didn’t answer the door. I told them the story and they were going to handcuff me. I took them to the neighbor who had sold the AC unit to me. I’m glad I made him give me a receipt. As much as I didn’t want to see him in even more trouble, I wasn’t going to go to jail for break-in and burglary. He was the one who stole the AC unit and lied about it.
