The House Had Baseboard Heat
My dad and I decided to buy and remodel a home together. My dad has been a contractor for 25 years and I followed in his footsteps right after high school. I obtained my associates degree in business at the local community college while I worked full time for him. I understand that not a lot of other people my age have the ability to work full time while going to school, so I’m really grateful for that. The past few years, the two of us have talked about starting our own business on the side together. We wanted to buy and remodel houses as something fun to do. We’d seen a lot of TV shows and being contractors ourselves would make the process way easier. When we found our first house to renovate, we jumped at the chance to renovate it. It was in a fantastic area and one of the cheapest houses in the area. We saw the potential as soon as we walked through it. A lot of the changes were cosmetic, but there was one really expensive change we had to make. The house was so old that it had baseboard heating. The baseboard heating was so chunky and an eyesore. Not only was it outdated, but no homeowner would be able to safely put furniture in front of the baseboard heat because it was a fire hazard. We had to take the baseboard heat system out and install a brand new, central HVAC system for the entire house. It was pricey, but the new HVAC system increased the value tremendously.
