I needed to upgrade my UV light air purifier.

I have always been a trooper when it comes to clean air in my home. When I first got my central air conditioning installed I made sure the HVAC technician also installed air filters in the air conditioning unit. I recently got a new furnace system and I got the best air filters on the market to put in the furnace. I was very happy with my air filters, but I felt like I needed more. I decided to do some HVAC research to see if there was an HVAC unit I could buy that would help purify the air in my home. I did some digging and found out that one of the best air purifiers is a UV light air purifier. I immediately ordered a large UV light air purifier for my home, and I was so excited when it arrived at my front door. I struggled to get it open and put together, so I asked my friend, who is an HVAC mechanic, to come and put the air purifier together for me. One the UV light air purifier was put together, I discovered that I had accidentally ordered an old version of UV light air purifiers and that this one was not as good as the newer units. I took the air purifier back and ordered the upgraded UV light air purifier which is thirty percent more effective than the older version. I was so happy that I had decided to get the newer UV light air purifier because it was so effective at killing viruses and germs in the air.

My friends and I found an old abandoned light house that had an elaborate HVAC system installed in it. We had been exploring the lighthouse for about an hour when My friend discovered air ducts that traveled through the entire lighthouse. We went outside and found a central air conditioner unit outside, and in a hidden closet we found a boiler heating system. I was so surprised to find the central air conditioning and the boiler heating system in the lighthouse since it was so old and had been abandoned for years. When the light house first got these HVAC units installed they were a newer invention and it must have cost a lot of money to get the central air conditioner and furnace installed in there. I decided to find out who owned the lighthouse. My research led me to an elderly man’s house who apparently was an HVAC technician for most of his life. I started talking to him about the lighthouse and how amazing it was that it had central air conditioning and a boiler heating system in it. The old man said that he built both the central air conditioner and boiler furnace system all himself by hand. He used to use the lighthouse to guide ships at night and he would often spend time in the lighthouse on summer days sitting in the air conditioning, and in the evening he would turn on the heater to keep him warm. The elderly man also said that he used to live in the lighthouse and that is when he first decided to build the central air conditioning system and the heating unit. This elderly HVAC technician taught me a lot about HVAC.

Many of the people in the neighborhood started buying generators so they could still use their air conditioners and furnaces when they needed them most.

Our culture relies a lot on our HVAC units to keep us comfortable and happy, but our HVAC units rely on our power to keep them running. Our neighborhood was having random power outages that would occur usually on the hottest part of the day, and the coolest part of the evening. Around noon, when the sun is out and it’s really hot, the power would go out and everyone in the neighborhood would lose their central air conditioners for a few hours. Some days would be worse than others, like when it’s over one hundred degrees outside and then the power goes out and you no longer have air conditioning to keep you from melting. The same problem would happen on some evenings when it was the most cool. Families would wake up in the middle of the night cold because the power would go out and then the furnace would stop working. Just the other night the power went out and our neighbors got so upset that they almost decided to sue the electric company. Many of the people in the neighborhood started buying generators so they could still use their air conditioners and furnaces when they needed them most. Finally the electrical company came and fixed the problem with the power. The whole neighborhood was so happy to have their air conditioning and furnace back that they had a party for it. We even had to hire a special HVAC technician to come and fix any air conditioner or furnace that was damaged by the random power outages.

Last week my son was getting married.

We had everything set up and ready to go for the wedding except for the air conditioners.

We had installed four window air conditioners into the reception all so it would be at a comfortable temperature, but one three of them stopped working for some reason. I tried to fix them but they would not turn on. I took one of them to the HVAC store and asked if they could repair all three of the window air conditioners before the wedding the next day, but they said most of the HVAC technicians had already gone home for the day so they would only be able to fix one of the air conditioners that night. I left one of the air conditioners there and drove an hour to one of my friends’ house who is an HVAC mechanic. My friend agreed to help and started working on the air conditioners. I stood next to him and watched him take apart the air conditioner as he explained to me what the problem was and how to fix it. Apparently, both of the air conditioners needed a new part, so I quickly drove to the nearest HVAC store and arrived just before it closed. I ran into the store and asked the HVAC worker if they had the part I was looking for. After a short search, the worker brought me the parts I needed to fix the air conditioners. I rushed back to my friend’s house and he was able to finish fixing the window air conditioners within an hour. When the wedding day came, we had all four window air conditioners working perfectly.

It drives me crazy that people are so bad at communicating.

I admit that I can also be difficult, but mostly because I’m avoidant.

Other humans seem more than happy to run their mouths, but they might not transmit any useful information the entire time they’re flapping their jaws. This is what frustrates me beyond belief. We don’t need small talk and chit chat, just tell me the important facts and let’s get on with our days. This is exactly what happened recently when I tried to rent out a room at my local rec center. I was having a meeting for my online community and we needed a comfortable place with abundant indoor air quality control so everyone could meet up. Normally, we meet at a park and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. These days, it’s so hot and humid outside that we absolutely require the use of a powerful cooling system if we’re going to have quality time together. When I called the rec center to reserve the room for the afternoon, the woman on the phone was very friendly. In fact, she wouldn’t stop talking about how hot it has been, how her kids were enjoying the air conditioning at home, and how she couldn’t wait to go swimming. Never in that conversation did she mention that the central cooling system at the rec center had broken down. Of course, when we arrived there two days later that’s exactly what we found. The rec center was just as hot and humid as the air outside, and yet nobody had bothered to mention this complete AC unit failure. Unreal.

There’s nothing like being a student.

Not only is it a fun and exciting time in your life when you are filling your head with amazing new knowledge, but it’s incredibly overwhelming and stressful. I feel like I never stopped having work to do because there’s always something new to learn for a class. I can never let down my guard or I face the risk of letting my grades slip after all the hard work that I put in. That’s why, even though my house is in complete disarray I have no choice but to continue doing my homework and taking online quizzes. As you know, it’s been an extremely hot and humid summer so far. The outdoor climate has been overwhelmingly oppressive for the past several months now. Every day, I’m actually a little grateful that I have so much indoor work to do, because the outdoor air is not calling my name. Until… It started forcing its way into the house. My central heating and cooling system broke down the other day and immediately the outdoor climate started over taking my indoor air. It became so hot and humid inside that I couldn’t think straight. No matter what I did, the air conditioning system wouldn’t start back up and I knew a professional repair service was imminent. I finally called the HVAC repair shop up the street in a range for a professional inspection. They told me it would be at least 3 days before they could get a cooling technician out to the house. Well, what am I supposed to do now? I can’t cool off on my homework. I guess I will go try to work in the free air conditioning of the library

The next week, I lived with the indoor air temperature preferences of some random strangers while I paid to be in their house.

You really have to be careful when you are making arrangements to go on a vacation. You never know what you’re signing up for until you actually arrive at your destination and see the disappointment created by their beautiful photos online. At least, this has been my experience in more than one hotel that I’ve checked into. Even with 5 star ratings and promises of advanced indoor air temperature control, you can end up with a dirty, smelly hotel room that has next to no air temperature management system. That’s why, I decided that for my next vacation I would book an airbnb instead of a traditional hotel situation. I figured, people probably took better care of their airbnb rentals because they have income riding on it. It turns out, I can be wrong in every regard. When I arrived at the Airbnb I was shocked to find that it was connected to the main residence. Worse of all, my rented portion of the house was actually directly connected to their central heating and cooling system. We shared the same air ducts and vents, which meant we also had the same indoor air temperature control. The next week, I lived with the indoor air temperature preferences of some random strangers while I paid to be in their house. It was freezing cold all day while I tried to enjoy myself in my new surroundings. At night, it was burning hot and I couldn’t get a single wink of sleep. When I talked with the owners about adjusting the indoor air temperature, they replied that the thermostat settings worked fine for them. Never again.

When I think back on my twenties it’s one big blur of panicking and being poor.

I never had finances on my side and I was chronically overworked trying to create a life for myself.

I put myself through college, I worked every day, and I usually had several gigs at once. At the same time, I was so poor that I could only afford to live in pitiful residences. Namely, there was one apartment with 4 bedrooms and I shared it with three complete strangers. That was the most uncomfortable living situation I’ve ever had in my life. And it’s not only because of the social pressures of living with people you don’t know. The biggest problem was the indoor air quality. I should say, there was no indoor air quality. This four-bedroom apartment had one single AC unit which was located in the living room. In order to get air to your bedroom we would often set up box fans to try to disperse the high quality indoor air throughout the apartment. It never worked. I remember many Summers that it was so hot and humid inside I literally couldn’t sleep at night. That’s when I got extremely desperate and started trying to funnel the AC into my bedroom. I had several powerful utility fans that I purchased and I began setting up a string of them leading from the AC unit to my sweltering hot bedroom. I honestly can’t say that this made a huge difference in my air temperature or air quality… But it made the apartment sound like we were living next to an airport.

For the past several months my husband and I have realized that things weren’t going well in our home life.

Don’t get me wrong, we are fine.

We get along without any issues for the most part. But the one thing that was starting to drive us crazy was the indoor air quality and our terrible central heating and cooling system. When we moved into this house the AC unit was only five years old and we expected to get a lot of use out of the cooling system. Unfortunately, it turns out the AC unit was too small for the size of the home. This meant, we put a lot of extra wear and tear on the AC unit through normal temperature control settings. Unfortunately, this deteriorating air conditioning system began having an effect on our indoor air quality. There were uneven temperature fluctuations and hot and cold patches all day. But the real trouble was getting our room cool enough to sleep at night. No matter what we did, it seems like we couldn’t get enough high-quality indoor air pumped into the bedroom for us to get a restful night of sleep. Eventually, we decided it would be wise to get an AC window unit to help keep our bedroom cool at night. I did a lot of research and waited for the perfect deal to show up on Craigslist before we purchased our small AC window unit. I was so excited at the new cooling system that I decided to install it myself before my husband got home. Everything was going great and the AC unit was working like a dream. And then… It fell straight out of our two-story window on the second day of use.

When I was leaving high school I was forced into the central heating and cooling profession. My family comes from a long line of indoor air quality control specialists and I was expected to follow in the shoes of my Grandpa, Uncle, and Dad. At the time, I didn’t have any other plans so I agreed to attend the local trade school and become a certified HVAC technician. It only took a few years of my life to be licensed as an air quality management specialist and my family connections to the HVAC industry made it easy for me to get a position at a local residential heating and cooling dealership. I figured there wasn’t much to lose. Well, you can completely lose your mind in this HVAC field, that’s for sure. After only 2 years of performing heating and cooling repair services and diagnostic appointments, I was completely burnt out. I went online to see if any other HVAC specialists felt this air quality burnout, and was shocked to find there was an audience for it. I made a small community online and invited other flailing HVAC technicians to join. I was shocked with how quickly the heating and cooling support group blossomed. I’m happy to report, I’m no longer stressing myself out in the HVAC industry performing difficult repair services for demanding clients. Instead, all of my time is devoted to managing my HVAC technician support community. People are constantly telling me that my advice is valuable and they pay me for individual stress management consultations for their unique heating and cooling technician conditions. It turns out, I should have gone into psychology after high school rather than attending trade school for HVAC certification
