The time when our heater broke down during a snowstorm was the worst

I think one of the worst things that happened to my family was having the heating system break down in the middle of a snow storm.

I honestly didn’t expect this to happen.

I mean, I did have my heating system tuned up and it didn’t seem like there were any serious problems with the furnace. Still, this happened and driving was quite dangerous. We’re lucky we had a few portable heaters to use around the house. I think we set up about four of them, because that was all I could find. Even with all the portable heaters working at full crank though, it wasn’t enough to keep the house very warm. I believe we were able to keep it around 50 degrees, which was cold, but at least we weren’t freezing to death. All of us were wearing blankets and we were shivering just hoping the power wouldn’t go out as well. We called different HVAC companies, even the places with emergency services. We couldn’t get anybody willing to come out to us because the road conditions were so bad. The one HVAC company said they weren’t too far away from us and they did have 4-wheel drive, so they would try. Unfortunately, they ended up getting stuck and had to dig themselves out and go back. I knew there was nothing we could do but wait it out at that point. I was thankful when the snow finally quit around midnight and the snow plows were working non-stop. Eventually our road was cleared out and I was able to get the emergency HVAC crew out to our place. It felt like a miracle when the heating system was finally on. Everybody was actually able to sleep well that night, but I had a massive emergency repair bill to cover.
