Household budget includes HVAC service plan

Most of us have to deal with a budget when it comes to managing our finances.

My wife and I are no different. And over the years, we’ve learned to be a bit more flexible when it comes to our spending patterns. That’s because it feels as though there has been one economic crisis after another. So there have been long nights inside the air conditioning trying to figure out what to cut and what to keep in the budget when things get tight. That was the case once again during the pandemic. And we’re still trying to get back to where we were financially prior to the pandemic. My wife and I had to take big pay cuts when we left the zone controlled HVAC of our offices. But at least we still had our jobs. The first thing we targeted that first summer was the HVAC cooling costs. That’s a big fixed cost for us in this region. And with some house preparation and thermostat discipline, we saved close to a grand over the course of the four month deep heat season. Still, there were things to cut and we even considered cutting the HVAC service plan to save money. However, neither of us felt very good about that. Our heating and cooling comfort was pretty fundamental to our lives. I couldn’t have imagined living through the pandemic without great heating and cooling. I mean, we spent almost all of our time inside the air conditioning of our home. So the HVAC service plan remained an essential expenditure.
