Covering up in the day to save money on A/C in the summer
Holy cow.
No matter how I try and prepare myself for the heat and humidity of the Summer in this region, it still takes me some getting accustomed to. However, we are now going into something like our 5th Summer here and have l acquired a bit along the way on just how to manage the heat of local summers. For starters, find a nice cool spot with air conditioner to be while during the peak heating minutes of each day. Or be in some body of water. That’s step one. I also acquired honestly in a hurry how the physics of direct sunshine heating can push an Heating, Ventilation as well as A/C cooling bill right off a huge cliff. When built the modern home we’re living in now. It was our first modern home without any neighbors close. So, with the appealing views all around us, we opted to not put up window treatments. This was good and was honestly so odd for me. I’ve regularly lived in spots where you had to pull the shades for privacy. But I’ve also lived up north where we don’t often think about direct sunshine heating. Well, I’m here to attest to the fact that it’s indeed a very big deal when you get down here. The first electric bills of Springtime were bracing. But by the time the Summer arrived, the Heating, Ventilation as well as A/C cooling bill was completely unsustainable. And the more I learn, the more I appreciate this region no matter what season it is.
