The air conditioner in my AirBnb is keeping me up at night on my vacation

Traveling when I was younger was a lot harder than it is today.

There was a point where gasoline hit $4 a gallon during the Bush years as the economy grinded to a halt. When you account for inflation, it was also more expensive to travel by air as well. Whenever I went on vacation, I was limited to motels and hotels for accommodations. Every once in a while you can find a nice hotel in the middle of nowhere, but a lot of the chain hotel companies cut corners with room maintenance. I have stepped into more hotel rooms that wreaked of black mold odor than I would care to admit. It’s like these companies know they’ll make their money regardless so they don’t care enough. Even though I had few options in the past, I feel liberated by companies like AirBnb where I can pay the same rates to rent a person’s house or apartment. Of course there are still bad accommodations that need to be properly vetted, but I have had almost exclusively good experiences when I stayed in houses during my travels. Unfortunately, the one I’m in right now has a noisy air conditioner. I love the view of the ocean here and the pool in the back, but the air conditioner was installed in the closet outside the master bedroom. It has kept me up at night turning on and off while it cycles. This is the first time I’ve had anything close to a bad experience when renting a person’s home opposed to a hotel room.
