I had to get through the winter without heat in my car this year

I’m really happy that it’s finally April and warm outside. Our winter season was particularly brutal this year. We had record lows in February and the whole country was hit by a series of severe ice and snow storms that even brought low temperatures to the southern states. Texans lost power for weeks at a time when most of the grid went down during the worst of the ice storms. I never lost my power because I live up north and our power grid here was built to withstand those conditions. However, that doesn’t mean that things were easy for me this year. My hours were cut back at work and I had to limit my budget even further as I was already skipping meals every day. When the heating system in my car quit working, I didn’t have the money to fix it. And I knew I likely wouldn’t have the money again until later that year towards the end of the summer. Our winters are fairly severe in this region, as last week we had lows down to 10 degrees below zero. Trying to drive around in this weather without heat in your car is extremely uncomfortable. There is already an inherent risk from driving in the snowy and icy conditions in the event you get thrown off the road and buried in a snow drift. But if you have absolutely no source of heat in your car, these accidents are almost guaranteed to be deadly. Needless to say I had a miserable time this year driving around in temperatures below zero without any heat in my car.
