My whole day was spent on that one HVAC installation job

Most HVAC installation jobs take several hours to complete.

In fact, when the office manager schedules an HVAC installation job, she tells all of our customers that the job will take all day.

We used to tell the customers six or eight hours, but we ran into snags and had a lot of upset people. Now we tell everyone that the job will take from morning until night. If we don’t run into any issues at all, then we finish early and the customer is happily surprised. If we run into one problem after another and the job takes all day, then the customer is never unhappy. Last Saturday, I was working on an HVAC installation job with one of my co-workers. The guy was constantly on his telephone all day long. I overheard that guy talking one time and it was clear that he was arguing with his girlfriend about something. She called 10 or 15 times and she texted him every couple of minutes. I don’t have any idea what was going on, but it certainly made our day a lot longer than it needed to be. If my coworker would have had his head on straight, we probably would have finished the simple HVAC installation by 4. Instead, we were finishing all of the final touches as the sun was going down. I don’t want to complain to my boss about the guy, but he better get his home life straight or he will lose this job. My boss won’t put up with someone on their phone all day.
