Oliver was so kind to my son and I when we moved into the house next door. I had just purchased the property and knew very little about the area. However, I loved how calm it was and not too far from my kid’s school. Oliver knocked at my door as I was busy opening boxes to unpack with my son. He went to answer it and there was this older looking man with some lemons in a bowl. He explained he has a lemon tree in his backyard, and too many lemons. So, Oliver always shares them with his neighbors. It was so kind of him to bring us lemons, so I asked him to come inside and have some iced tea. After an hour, Oliver left and we resumed unpacking with my son. A few days later, I was leaving for work and I saw Oliver seated at his front porch enjoying the morning and some coffee. I went over, said hello, and told him if he ever had any HVAC issues, he could call me directly. Then, I handed Oliver my business card showing that I’m a certified HVAC tech. Oliver thanked me and said he did have some questions about ductless systems. However, since I was heading to work, we’d talk in the evening when I was back. He mentioned he wanted a ductless system for his tool shed where he spent time tinkering with his old car. I knew a ductless system was perfect for that place and agreed to pass by when I was back from work.

Drew is a lovely old man who lives in our area.

He always comes out when it’s nice outside, and goes around saying hello to everyone.

I remember when we were new to the area. We met Drew when he dropped some oranges from his trees to our door. We were busy unpacking and heard a knock at the door. My partner went to open it, and saw this lovely old man smiling up at him. My partner is six feet tall, so Drew had to look up to say hello. Then, I joined him at the door, and we both asked Drew to come in. He gave us the oranges, and we got some juice from the fridge to serve him. The house was a mess, and the kids were running around, but Drew didn’t mind. After introductions, he told us a bit about himself and also some advice about the area, then he left. From that day, he always comes over to say hello, and we make sure to visit him when we can. The other day, I was on my way to work and wanted to drop some cookies for Drew. When I arrived at his driveway, I saw an HVAC van there, and wondered if he was having an issue with his air conditioner. It’s summer and everyone was using their air conditioners to stay cool. I knocked on his door and Drew came to answer. He received the cookies and explained he wanted the HVAC expert to help change his air filters. Drew used to change the air filters himself, but now he lets the HVAC expert handle that since he is getting older.

June is looking forward to the time she moves away from the city.

But, for now, she has to bear the craziness for a while longer. When June was younger, she always longed to move to the city. She grew up in a small village near the sea, and life was good. However, there wasn’t much to do in this seaside location. The only time June was happy was during summer when the area was awash with tourists seeking escape and relaxation. June would always wonder why they wanted to be there while the cities were so excited. She opted to go to college in one such city, and that became her new home. Once in a while, June would return to see her folks. But not that often. That was a decade ago, and she is now ready to leave the city she once longed for. During the pandemic, June found herself tired, isolated, and scared. She longed for her family, but they were too far away. Since she had time to think, June began contemplating relocating to the small town where she grew up, and she will do so next year. The plan is to fix up her house, including replacing the HVAC system. After that, she’d relocate, and find a good house to buy in the area with a reliable HVAC system. June wanted to replace the HVAC system in her current house because she was worried about it overheating. The last time it failed, this was the explanation the HVAC expert had given her. He then proceeded to urge June to replace the aging unit.

Andy and I have been together for three years, and I’m happy to see him thrive.

When we met, he was straight out of college and searching for a job.

Andy has always loved and played music part time since he was a teen. His passion for the guitar is evident from the moment he hits the stage. However, he chose to go to college after graduating high school. That way, he could work a career during the day, and play music after work. Andy had an option between being a plumber and a HVAC tech. This is according to the stories he shared about his life when we started dating. In the end, he chose the HVAC world and began his training to become a HVAC tech. He would still play music in the evening while attending HVAC classes during the day. Eventually, Andy graduated, and his HVAC certification ensured he could start work. Andy and I met at a local pub where he was playing music for a few hours. He asked me to join him for a late meal, and I agreed. That’s how we started dating, and soon fell in love. About three months after we met, he got a reply from one of the HVAC companies about an apprentice position. It’s now been three years, and Andy is thriving as a HVAC tech. He also still plays music after work, and during the holidays. I continue to learn more about balance from him, and I think this is why he is always happy.

Have you ever gone on a vacation anywhere, had so much fun, and chose to relocate to the area? This is exactly what I did two years ago.

The pandemic had been hard for most people and it absolutely left my mental health in shambles.

So, as soon as I could travel locally I opted to do so. A friend had told me of a location in another state with amazing hiking trails, the best scenery, and a camping ground. I did my research, and went there for a week. Little did I know I was going to fall in love with this area and relocate. I went back home feeling distraught, and opted to look for work vacancies in the area. There was resort hiring, so I applied. A week later, I did an interview and the task was mine. It took little time for me to settle in since I even had a place I wanted to buy, and did so within a month of relocating. Then, I had to have someone come and do HVAC maintenance in my up-to-date home. Since I knew little about the HVAC dealers in the area, I opted to do a bit of research online. There, I saw this one HVAC corp with amazing reviews. I left them a message on the chat box I saw popup once I accessed the website, and they got back to me in less than 14 minutes. I found that to be quite efficient, and I also loved the fast a/c service I got from the HVAC tech they sent to my house.

It has been such an appealing time having Dave as my apprentice. My boss always appreciates hiring gentlemen fresh from HVAC school. They join our apprenticeship and we get to train them about the task. It’s one thing to train in school about heating and cooling systems, and the trainers and instructors even do their best to show students the practicalities of working with HVAC systems. However, the real world is so much more different. As more experienced HVAC experts, we get to teach the apprentices more about the task. We take them to the customers’ homes, show them the right interactions to have, and how to inspect the different heating and cooling systems. It’s been so good having Dave under my wing. Ever since he was assigned to me a few months ago, we’ve had the best time. I’m more of a seasoned old timer, and Dave is a gen-z, so we always find each other laughing. There are stories I share and he says the seasoned days were weird, which always makes me feel like I’m 103 years old. However, he is a kind kid and always eager to learn. So, I share all the experience and wisdom with him hoping he has a lasting HVAC career. Last week, we were on our way to repair a faulty gas furnace when I told Dave we only had one more week to work together. Then he’d get his own HVAC car and be off to meet customers on his own. He had a mixture of emotions about this news, although I knew he was ready to hit the ground running as a heating and cooling worker.

I’ve been to several comedy shows in our state and neighboring areas.

It’s so much better for my friends and I to go drinking and have a good laugh than just heading to the club.

Now there’s nothing wrong with going to the club, however it’s better to go to a comedy show, have a good laugh, and feel the stress of life lifted from your spirit. One issue I have with such comedy clubs is their air conditioning, or lack of it. Some intentional clubs have the air conditioning running at full blast, and this turns the room into a freezer. People have their coats on, and those who came without coats sit there shivering. I once had a guy yell that they turn off the air conditioning in the middle of a set at a comedy club out of town. Other patrons agreed with him, and the management turned down the air conditioning. In other areas it’s completely opposite, they have the air conditioning off and the arena feels like a furnace. We all sit there perspiring until it becomes unbearable. In one place, folks started walking out and the comedian had to stop and ask why they were leaving. He was also dripping sweat, so the management turned on the air conditioning. The last comedy show I attended with my friends was the best one yet. And they had the cooling system working well the entire time. I know it’s because of the effective cooling system that we were all laughing and falling out of our seats. No matter how funny the comedian is, it’s hard to enjoy the show if the cooling system settings are off.

It’s been such an appealing year for my business and I can say I’m entirely grateful. For the longest time, I loved plants and wanted to open a plant shop, however my parents insisted that it was more of an interest only. In our family, mom and dad sort of bully us into the careers they know are perfect for us. So, this is how I found myself in finance and working in an office in the city. I know several people would love the task and the pay wasn’t bad at all. But, I always felt drained walking into the skyscraper every day. Then, the pandemic hit, and I found myself working from home. With so much time on my hands, I decided to work on my neglected garden. I also had a sunroom set up, and got several houseplants. That rekindled my love for plants, and my idea for a plant shop began. Many people loved the pictures I was taking of my house and garden plants and I was soon selling them. When it was time to go back to the office, I quit, moved my plants to a shop, and began my business. Last Spring, I had to turn on my A/C early at home since it was getting hotter every day. I still have plants in my sunroom, and also in my plant shop in the village. When it gets too hot, I find it better to turn on the A/C and regulate the temperatures in my home. That way, my plants can grow and thrive. I also adjust the temperature settings on the temperature control in my plant shop for the same effect.

I was late to work yesterday so I practically flew out the door.

The previous night my kid tricked me into watching a movie with her.

It was Summer holiday, so she was home from the university. My kid had a Summer task, which was online writing HVAC articles, so she didn’t have to leave the house and instead worked out of my office. I, on the other hand, had long gone back to the office. During the pandemic, I had to turn an extra room in the house into a home office. I worked there for almost two years, but my boss said we had to go back to the office. So, I left the space for when I had work to do at home. My kid settled in well with her laptop writing HVAC articles for some local HVAC businesses. On this day, I told her bye while flying out the door, and got to work 12 minutes late. At around 11 am, she called saying there was something wrong with the air conditioning. My kid had been in the home office working to beat a deadline when she noticed the room was getting warmer. We had the air conditioning running, so it seemed it had failed and the temperatures inside were rising. Since I was at work I instructed my kid to contact the area HVAC business for assistance. There was one I have a service and repair plan with, and they’d come to inspect the faulty air conditioning. My kid got in touch with them, and two hours later an HVAC worker showed up to the home to repair the faulty air conditioning.

It had been such an amazing vacation, and we were excited to have found time to get away from the crazy city.

My partner and I have these friends who own a cottage in the mountains and they charge for folks to stay there as a vacation rental type of arrangement.

When we were thinking about where we wanted to go, we asked if the cottage was available. To be honest, they always have full bookings for most of the year no matter the season, but this time we were blessed. A couple had canceled their two week vacation and they said we could take the slot. That was exactly what we needed; to spend time in a serene location with amazing air quality. Then it was over and it was time to get back home and to work. When we arrived, we noticed our cooling system had failed and it was still August. So, we couldn’t ignore fixing the faulty cooling system until later. The best option was to contact a good heating and cooling business for assistance. They sent a cooling expert to our house to inspect and repair the faulty cooling system, and come to find out a clogged drain line had caused the cooling system to fail. The cooling expert took her time removing all the algae, and also cleaned the cooling system. She also went ahead and replaced the HEPA air filter and our unit was back to normal in no time. We have plans to replace the heating and cooling system in our home, however that’s not going to be this year. That’s why we were excited that the heating expert managed to repair our faulty cooling system.
