It wasn’t the diagnosis my fiance and I wanted, nor did we want to spend money on the cost for a new HVAC duct

I could not understand why our boiler made so much noise when it was running. We had excellent heating, if we didn’t have as much as we once had. I thought it was just because the boiler was getting old. Now that the air conditioner is running, I am hearing the same noise again. I know it isn’t because the A/C unit is old. The air conditioner unit was bought only three years ago. When my fiance got home, he noticed the noise and asked if I had called the heating and cooling corporation. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to call, or if he had just thought about it. He apologized and said he was thinking about it this afternoon and thought he had asked, but blatantly he didn’t. He picked up his phone and called the heating and cooling corporation. He told them the persistent noise we had coming through the HVAC duct. He thought it was just the heat, but now it was happening with the air conditioner. When the heating and cooling serviceman arrived, it didn’t take long for him to diagnose the problem. He told us the HVAC duct needed to be diagnosed. He thought,at the least, we needed to have the HVAC duct repaired. Unfortunately, the least didn’t happen. We needed a new HVAC duct in numerous parts of the house. It wasn’t the diagnosis my fiance and I wanted, nor did we want to spend money on the cost for a new HVAC duct. We didn’t have a choice. Two weeks later, we had the HVAC duct cleaned, some of the HVAC duct was repaired, and other sections were being removed and upgraded.

Ten years ago, my fiance started looking into having ductless Heating and A/C installed.

We didn’t have an HVAC duct in our home, and we wanted to get a new heating and AC system that didn’t require an HVAC duct.

We knew the HVAC duct was almost as fancy as the heating and cooling system. Three years later, we had to put a new well on our home and we didn’t have the money to get ductless heating and cooling. Within three years, we had the well paid off, and now we were considering the new heating and cooling system again. I was surprised at how much the price had come down, and how much more efficient it had become. We talked to the heating and cooling supplier to get a price on the ductless heating and cooling system and what it would cost to get the upgrade done. We had made our appointment to have the system installed, when we had a horrible wind and rain storm, however our roof had shown signs of leaking, and now we had water running into our upper kitchen. We were now facing having a new roof on the house. It was now ten years since we first talked about ductless heating and cooling, and we were finally able to afford ductless heating and cooling. I asked my fiance if he thought something more could happen that would make this once again impossible. He said it had already happened. Our boiler system is irreparable, and we needed a new heating and cooling system. It was finally a necessity, and not an I want this situation. Two weeks later, our heating and cooling system was being installed. I didn’t know how good the ductless heating and cooling system could work until we had it running.

Over the last three weeks, we have had six afternoons in the nineties.

• The humidity was low, so my partner didn’t think it was necessary to turn on the air conditioner.

I told him I could not survive in the house if the A/C wasn’t turned on, but after being told I should quit complaining, I had enough. He told me the weather forecaster said he didn’t have his air conditioner on. He had window air conditioner units and wasn’t planning on installing the A/C units until it got into the mid-nineties. I could not believe he was talking about the weather forecaster and not worrying about my comfort. I called in to the news station and asked how hot it had to be before turning the air conditioner on. The woman who answered the phone thought I was joking, although I assured her I was not. She told me it was a personal choice. Some people turn on their air conditioner on a certain date, while others go by different temperatures. She told me if there was a problem with our air conditioner, I should call the Heating and A/C corporation. I told her about my partner going by what their weather forecaster said, and she didn’t know we needed an air conditioner yet. She laughed. I could not believe she laughed. I called the Heating and A/C supplier and asked them to come in and turn on the air conditioner unit. I didn’t know how to turn it on, and I didn’t care what it cost. I would deal with my partner when he got home, and if he got too miserable, I would move back with my parents.

I enjoyed where I work and I could not imagine working somewhere else, or doing anything differently in my life, but not only have I been here for ten years, although I hoped to be here until retirement.

Last month, that feeling of love for my job and job location ended.

I walked to work one afternoon, and all my energy was zapped. It was so hot and humid outside that I could barely breathe. I was smiling only because I knew when I got inside the building, the air conditioner would be working and I would be cool and comfortable again. Unfortunately, I walked into the building and it was more humid inside than outside. I asked the maintenance guy when they were going to service the air conditioner, and he shrugged. I went into the HR office and told him our working conditions were horrible, and they needed to service the air conditioner, however he shrugged and said it would be fixed when the new corporation owner gave him the go-ahead. I caused the current business owner to comment and knew it was time to go. If they would not allow us to have good Heating and A/C in our building, or had to know about having the air conditioner repaired, it wasn’t somewhere where I wanted to work. They didn’t care about their employees..An hour later, I had sweat running between my shoulder blades, and my blouse was wet. I saw numerous people falling asleep at their desks, because of the lack of air conditioning. I packed up my desk and was heading out of the office when the head of HR stopped me. She said the HVAC serviceman would be there in less than an hour.

I knew I needed a new temperature control when I had to change the batteries twice last year. It’s only May, and I am changing the batteries again. I bought new batteries, wondering if my batteries were old and unable to hold a charge for very long. When the batteries were still dying, I knew it was the temperature control. My fiance wasn’t sure if we should get the same temperature control, or a different type. He was talking about Nest temperature controls and smart temperature controls. I thought my digital temperature control was fine, but he wanted to upgrade. I told him to buy a new temperature control that was digital and programmable. It wasn’t like we went somewhere that we needed to keep a watch on the house for more than a few hours. we didn’t have a Google account for the Nest temperature control. I knew I could not talk him out of the smart temperature control if he had a choice. He had listened to our son talk about his smart temperature control, and Michael made it sound like it was the gold standard of temperature controls. I talked to my husband and tried to explain that we didn’t need anything as elaborate as a smart temperature control. It wasn’t until Michael told him he traveled a lot for work, which is why he wanted the smart temperature control, that he considered buying one. My husband shrugged and said he guessed he would just get the boring digital, programmable temperature control. He ordered the temperature control through the HVAC supplier instead of buying one at the home center, but at least he bought a new temperature control.

We had a brief heatwave a couple of weeks ago, but it was a hint at what I was going to experience this summer.

I didn’t like it, and I told my fiance, we had to get our new air conditioner unit soon.

He told me it was just a fluke, and it would be a couple of months before Summer set in. I didn’t want to wait much longer. It is now the middle of May and in our area, when Memorial Day arrives, it is like someone flips a switch. It goes from Spring to Summer overnight. My fiance thought we had plenty of time to get the new air conditioner unit, although I wasn’t sure, however yesterday, we had another afternoon heat wave. It was so hot that I swore my eggs were cooking just sitting on the counter. I would not wait any longer. I picked up the phone and called the HVAC corporation. I told them I needed a new air conditioner unit and requested they send someone out so they could help me opportunity one out. The next afternoon, I was going through the process of choosing a new air conditioner. I picked out a unit with SEER over 20, and it was important enough to keep my entire home cool while saving on energy. My fiance didn’t even notice when he got home from work a day later. He said he didn’t notice much difference with the air conditioner on or off. I was sure he was just being mean, unless he was just upset that I bought the A/C unit without talking to him..

Being an HVAC serviceman puts me into a lot of different situations, usually I go with the flow and never worry about it.

The only thing I am wary of is being in the dark.

I have been afraid of the dark since I was little and my brother locked me in a closet to play ball with his friends! My parents found me three hours later, when they got home from work. I know it sounds crazy, although I never got over that incident. Whenever it is totally dark, I have panic attacks. I hate this happening, but there is little I can do about it. Every time I need to go into a basement to work on a boiler, I hope no one turns the lights out. I work quickly, but efficiently, hoping the lights don’t go out, and last month, I was working on a boiler when the power went out. I knew there was a storm raging outside, and it was lightning. I knew it was possible the power would go out, so I tested the boiler, praying the entire time the power would not go out. My prayers didn’t work that way. The lights went out, and I was stuck in the dark. I could feel the panic beginning. There were people upstairs talking, and I wondered if they remembered I was downstairs. Two minutes later, the door opened, and I could see light filtering down the steps. I told them I was fine, although I would need to come back and finish the boiler when the power was restored.

I knew there was something wrong with the air conditioner unit even before I had the HVAC serviceman do the inspection, but he told me he had to order the parts, which I was perfectly fine with.

• He said he would order the A/C parts, and the next week he would come back and install them, but when he installed the new parts, the air conditioner still didn’t work.

He seemed surprised the A/C was still broken, He told me he was going to have a colleague come look at the air conditioner unit, then I asked if I was going to need to spend any extra money, but he said it would all be part of the original service call, the second Heating and A/C serviceman arrived and he said I needed a fan motor. They ordered the fan motor and returned the next afternoon to install it. The fan motor worked, although I still wasn’t getting good air conditioner. They both looked lost and wanted to call another heating and ac serviceman. I told them if the air conditioner wasn’t repaired this time. I was going to hire another HVAC supplier and I would contact the owner of their heating and cooling corporation. The third heating and ac serviceman arrived and hit the reset switch. Within seconds the air conditioner unit was running and there was cool air coming from the air vent. When the first heating and ac serviceman turned off the power, he forgot to hit the reset switch. I wasn’t happy when they tried to make me pay for three Heating, and A/C technicians and all those parts, when the reset switch hadn’t been touched.

I am always looking for new types of workouts to burn more calories, tone muscles and improve my fitness level.

I try to change up the types of exercises I do to target all different muscles and get the most benefit from my workout sessions.

By checking out the training sessions of professional athletes, I came across jumping rope. I hadn’t jumped rope since I was a little girl. I bought a leather jump rope with weighted handles and started jumping. At first, I wasn’t very good at it. I kept stepping on the rope and smacking myself in the calves. Despite frequently running and cycling, I lacked the stamina to jump for more than a minute. I kept practicing and quickly noticed improvement. I gained the endurance to jump for long stretches. I became proficient at jumping on one foot, running with the rope, double-unders and crossovers. I now workout with a jump rope app on my phone. The guided workouts can be anywhere from eight to forty minutes long and vary from beginner to advanced levels. Some of the training sessions are strictly jumping while others incorporate crunches, jumping jacks, lunges, push-ups, burpees, squats and more. The app keeps track of the time I’ve devoted, number of sessions and calories I’ve burned. It’s extremely motivational. On the days when I’m feeling a bit sluggish, I use the app. Jumping rope is a full-body workout. It gets my lungs and heart working. It involves strength, balance, stamina and coordination and burns a lot of calories in a very short time.

When I first noticed slow moving drains in my home, I hoped that I was mistaken.

I kept thinking the problem would fix itself.

Unfortunately, the blockage worsened. Whenever a family member took a shower, there would be standing water in the tub. This left a ring of soap scum that required constant scrubbing. Every time I did a few dishes in the sink, it took forever for the dirty water to drain. Every sink, tub and shower in the house was always in need of cleaning. I finally tried a combination of baking soda, white vinegar and boiling water. I’d read online that it was a safe way to clean the drains. It helped a bit for about a week or so. I then tried plunging the various drains, and I think I aggravated the problem. I was very reluctant to call a licensed plumber because of the expense. However, pouring chemical drain cleaners into the pipes wasn’t successful, and I was worried about the potential for bigger issues. With no other choice, I eventually scheduled service from a local plumbing company. They agreed to send someone over that same day. The plumber showed up right on time and was wonderfully professional. He wore shoe coverings to avoid tracking through my home. He used a manual drain snake. It is a long auger-like tool that rotates slowly as it’s pushed into the drain and through a stubborn clog. It has a hook on the end of the device that works to pull out globs of soap scum and hair. He also utilized a video line inspection that revealed the infiltration of tree roots into the main drain line underground.
