My associate and I were able to store our things in this air conditioned space for about a month

Last year I went through one of the most stressful moves of my entire life with all of the housing debacle as my buddy and I experienced. My associate and I were trying to purchase our first home, however there was nothing however problems when it came to closing. The sellers were reluctant to change things my buddy and I needed. Then they had the work done, inproperly. Then the energy dealer insisted that they transfer an entire utility pole before my buddy and I can transfer into the house. And finally a pressing storm ripped through our part plus brought down some trees that had to be disattached from the property. All in all my buddy and I spent months waiting to get into the house, then during this time our things were in a strange purgatory. There is nowhere for us to put our stuff, and our aged lease was expired, plus my buddy and I couldn’t get into the new house. In a panic, my buddy and I negotiated with the sellers plus wound up storing everything in the garage of the new home. There were a few complications of keeping our things sequestered to the garage however luckily the air quality was not one of them. I guess, thanks to fantastic karma, the garage was well-insulated plus attached to the home’s central A/C system. This month that is long as the sellers kept the control device set to a adequate temperature, the garage was also cool plus dry. My associate and I were able to store our things in this air conditioned space for about a month. If my buddy and I didn’t have Heating plus Air Conditioning service in the garage, I have no idea what my buddy and I would have done with all of our belongings. My associate and I undoubtedly couldn’t afford an air-conditioned storage unit.

Still feeling disgruntled about my terrible cooling system experience, I stepped forward and offered him start-up funds without hesitation.

I’ve never considered myself to be a businessman of any sort. I really just go about my own business, and take money as it comes to me over the course of a normal work day. I never had high aspirations of becoming an investor or entrepreneur. Frankly, I’ve always accepted the idea of working 9-5 for my entire life. That’s why it was surprising to everyone, myself included, when I recently invested in a local heating and cooling dealership in town. It came up quite suddenly, to be honest. It all started when my personal cooling system failed last year and I had to call the nearest heating and ventilation service in the phonebook. When they arrived, the air conditioning technician was a real dick. He came totally unprepared, barely paid any attention to my air conditioner, and aggressively handed me a quote within 5 minutes of looking at the cooling system. I didn’t understand how this heating and cooling dealership stayed afloat when they provided such terrible service, but then I remembered they were the only HVAC company in town! A few days later, I overhead a man at the local pharmacy talking about how he desired to start up a new HVAC dealership. He was a certified heating and cooling specialist himself, but didn’t have the money necessary to start up a new business venture. Still feeling disgruntled about my terrible cooling system experience, I stepped forward and offered him start-up funds without hesitation. I don’t know what came over me. Three months later, we’re just opening the brand new heating, cooling, and ventilation shop and our calendar is completely booked solid. I guess I wasn’t the only one who hated the old HVAC shop.

Sometimes I don’t feel like a real adult.

I have a lot of inner thoughts and impulses that are more in line with an adolescent, and I wonder when I’m going to fully transition into boring adulthood.

Well, I think I’m taking a big step these days. Recently I have been deeply considering the benefits of home repairs for tax breaks. God, it hurts to even speak that boring, old person sentence. See, in the last two years I became a first time homeowner and I’m still learning the ins and outs of being a responsible property owner. One of the things that has recently come to light is the potential to update my home HVAC unit with a tax credit from the government. Apparently there are programs that support the purchase of more energy efficient and environmentally friendly home heating and cooling systems. In an effort to decrease overall energy expenditure, the government supports the installation of modernized furnaces and air conditioners. All you have to do is purchase one of the most highly energy star rated temperature control system components on the market, and cost can be deducted from your annual taxes. Best of all, you continue to save money because of the decreased energy requirements for each piece of home temperature control equipment. In only a few short years, the air conditioner or furnace will pay for itself via reduced energy bills each month. As much as I hate thinking about all of these arduous home appliance installations, I really enjoy the thought of all that extra cash. At least I can save money like an adult, but spend it like a teenager.

I know a few people who genuinely have a hard time controlling their impulses.

They are prone to stuffing their faces with terrible food, lounging around lazily rather than getting work done, and making so many misinformed purchases. It’s all really quite stressful to hear about. One of my distant friends has the very worst impulse control out of everyone, though. He proved it to us just recently when we went out and bought radiant heated flooring on a whim. The trouble all began when he was watching Desperate Housewives and they had extravagant radiant heated flooring installed throughout their entire mansion. Of course, these upscale ladies had marble put in to cover the hydronic heating pipes, and the result was so beautiful that my friend couldn’t stop thinking about the new heating method. In the episode they talked profusely about how warm and perfectly comfortable the new heated flooring felt. Apparently it was incredibly evenly heated and there were no cold pockets of air in the house whatsoever. Well, all of this information was too enticing for my buddy to handle. Next thing we knew, he had called everyone up to brag about his new alternative heating method. Apparently, he had called the nearest HVAC company and immediately purchased all the equipment necessary for high end radiant heated flooring when the episode of Real Housewives had finished. He was bragging up and down, telling everyone who would listen about how comfortable and amazingly comfortable his home would be once the heater was installed. There was one problem though. He had maxed out his credit cards on the radiant heated flooring that day, but forgot to pay for the cost of installation.

I would never consider myself to be a traditionally “handy” person.

• I’m very logical and I can figure a few things out here and there, but I am no home appliance expert.

Most of the time I manage to troubleshoot with the help of online tutorials and user forums, rather than my own insight or knowledge. Still, all these things considered, I recently started a whole youtube channel on home repair. It turns out that people would rather watch me fix things than figure it out through other means, and now I have over 100k followers. My biggest area of interest is home heating and cooling repairs. Apparently that is a huge problem area for most homeowners, because I’m constantly getting fan mail and user comments about new furnace and air conditioner issues. In fact, some might say I’m a certified heating, air conditioning, and ventilation expert at this point. It all started when I made a video about basic furnace maintenance service. I demonstrated the handful of routine heater services that should be completed every Spring and Fall, including changing out the air filter and cleaning up some of the internal components. After that video, the HVAC requests just kept rolling in. Soon I was repairing furnaces and air conditioners around the neighborhood so I could demonstrate how to troubleshoot a faulty AC unit, heater, or thermostat. I learned how to access and clean ductwork, and began to recreate major HVAC failures and their subsequent system repairs. At this point, I’m beginning to learn how to complete full heating and cooling system installations for my youtube channel. So much for not being “handy…”

I recently got the most unfortunate news that my uncle passed away.

I was saddened when I heard the news, but not too much.

Actually, I never knew that uncle even existed. He was a distant relative that no one kept in touch with; news of his death was pretty shocking considering I didn’t know he was ever in existance. Strangely, he had no one listed as a beneficiary in his will. When I also received news that I would be getting a portion of his estate, I was astounded. Suddenly everyone was asking what I planned to do with my small fortune. Well, I had a ton of student debt to pay back, but after that I actually intended to go straight back to school. Rather than getting another academic degree, however, I was going back to get my license for heating and cooling technical skills. You see, I realized that this money was my big chance to change my life! I wanted to get into a stable and profitable field, and the HVAC industry was calling my name for some time already. I immediately enrolled in the ventilation trades program, and buckled down for the next 18 months as I took course after course on heating and cooling technologies, furnace and AC equipment engineering, and modern thermostat programming. I learned the ins and outs of ventilation equipment installation, repair, and sales. I also took several internships with local heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repair shops. By the time I graduated, I was debt free and ready to start my brand new life as an HVAC technician. It was all thanks to my mysterious, dead uncle.

So please take everything I’m about to say with a grain of salt…. He drives me absolutely insane. He really thinks the world of his younger years. Everyday there’s some new way that his upbringing has prepared him for some ridiculous task at hand, and he drives me up the wall. Right now our huge obstacle is figuring out how to cohabitate with the thermostat. See, my midwest upbringing apparently did not prepare me for the heat and humidity of Atlanta summers. I am more than accustomed to brutally low temperatures, terrible windchill, and drastic snowfall. However, while our summers got plenty hot and humid, they are nothing compared to the climate of the south. On the other hand, my husband is from goddamn Florida. Therefore, any level of heat and mugginess is absolutely acceptable to him. He sees absolutely no problem with a 100 degree day and 90% humidity, because “He’s from Florida.” I want to strangle him. No one should live in those conditions, and it isn’t something to brag about! As such, you can imagine the arguments we have over the air conditioning system at home. While I desperately want to run the AC unit all hours of the day, every single day, he doesn’t understand why I’m so discontent with the natural air quality. He thinks that opening the windows to the house provides adequate ventilation, and I simply need to accept the disgusting outdoor air conditions. We go back and forth, turning the cooling system off and on. One of these days I know the AC isn’t going to power back on again, and my husband will finally be able to live like he’s back in sweet home, Florida.

When you’re house searching it’s pretty easy to feel like you’re running in endless concentric circles, chasing some idealized condo that doesn’t exist. You might go in with a particular set of deal breakers as well as must-haves, but soon you’ll have completely altered the entire list. All my good friend and I need to see is an replaced AC unit, heater, as well as temperature control, as well as we’re feeling pretty good about the investment; My associate and I also want to find energy star rated windows with double paned glass in order to insulate the house as much as possible. My associate and I need to see thick, current insulation in the attic as well as crawlspace, as well as the external doors have to seal tightly. How could a simple control equipment cause so much drama & confusion? Well, when you have an obsessive compulsive guy with terrible ADD, almost anything can become a big problem. I should have realized that he seemed a bit too interested in the information pamphlets our Heating & A/C specialist gave us. I should have anticipated his big desire to figure out how the smart control equipment connected to the heating system & A/C unit. I should have known that he wouldn’t be able to stop fiddling with the control equipment programming afternoon in & afternoon out. Somehow, I overlooked all the signs, & my buddy and I proceeded with the smart control equipment installation about 3 months ago. Since then, I’ve barely even seen my guy’s face. It’s regularly buried in the control equipment panel, nose deep in the energy usage & system performance metrics that he has to access multiple times a afternoon. When the Heating & A/C specialist said I wouldn’t ever have to touch the control equipment screen again, he didn’t tell me that my guy would never touch me again, either.
