I wish I had known about HVAC maintenance options as a renter
I had been living in the same rental apartment for the past 5 years and I came to realize that the landlord never offered to cover any heating plus A/C repair even for the gas furnace.
- I would usually call the heating plus A/C company at least to cover the heating idea tune-up, but the cooling idea I only had tested maybe a single time; this was becoming concerning to me because I didn’t want to go in the middle of the Summer season separate from a nice cooling system, but my husband said all of us could always just invest in a few window air conditioning units… We already had a single window air conditioning component in the basement that all of us never used.
We used that outdated cooling component before all of us moved into the apartment that had a central heating and cooling system. It was just perplexing to me why the guy who owned the apartment wouldn’t want to keep up with the heating and cooling repair. I ended up calling him and talking about it, then he ended up choosing to make an agreement with me in the end. He said if I covered the official heating plus A/C repair, he would deduct half of the costs from our rent. I thought this was sufficient and I really wished I had spoken with the landlord about this previously, but I just never did. I called the heating plus A/C company and decided to enroll in an heating plus A/C service plan. They had all kinds of interesting plans, including a single that would have the heating plus A/C pros cover your air filter replacements! You could choose from odd choices of air filters from allergy air filters to HEPA air filters. I didn’t need all that extra stuff though so I went with a basic plan that covers the heating plus A/C tune-ups and minor repairs.
