Heat pump is perfect for our weather
When my husband and I both retired, we were ready to move south.
We’d had enough of the long months of sub zero temperatures, bitter wind chill and feet of snow.
For more than half the year, we were trapped inside and dependent on the furnace. We didn’t want to head so far south that we had the opposite problems due to excess heat and humidity. The spot we chose is just perfect for us. For the majority of the time, we’re able to keep the windows open and enjoy fresh air. There are a few months during the summer when the temperatures climb into the nineties and a couple during the winter when it drops down in the forties. Because of a heat pump, we have no problems with comfort. My husband and I had never heard of a heat pump until we bought our new house. This type of system runs on electricity and provides both heating and cooling capacity. One of the main benefits is that the heat pump moves existing heat between the indoors and the outdoors. In cooling mode, it extracts heat out of the house and operates much like a conventional air conditioner. The unit is especially helpful at reducing excess humidity. Switching to heating mode literally reverses the operation. The heat pump finds ambient heat in the outdoor air and transfers it inside. This process is safe, clean and environmentally friendly. The system doesn’t burn fossil fuels to create heat, so there’s no greenhouse gases. There’s also no fumes, hot surfaces or concerns over carbon monoxide. The heat pump is wonderfully energy efficient and keeps our utility bills low.
