A furnace/heater installation disaster in the company
The electric heater transformer was failing to cause the system to short and it needed to be replaced
I responded to a job ad in the newspaper and forgot all about it until I got a call months later that I was accepted for the position of manager of a small fish processing and packaging company. After months of working one morning, we woke up to a broken-down furnace. You could feel the effect, especially in the packaging area because it felt like an oversized oven. As the manager, I took it upon myself to call the local heating dealership. One of the beauties of living in a small town is that the HVAC repairman and his crew arrived within fifteen minutes. The whole crew worked strategically and started by inspecting the hybrid heating unit. They informed us that they would need to conduct HVAC maintenance so that they could determine if they would need to do more other than a boiler repair. After the heating maintenance, it was determined that certain parts of the heat pump would need to be replaced. The electric heater transformer was failing to cause the system to short and it needed to be replaced. Just when I thought that was the end of the bad news, the other technician who was working on the electric furnace that powered the hydronic heating system in the office said that it also needed repairs but it was a minor repair and had no parts needed for replacement. It seems that the person who was in charge before I had neglected HVAC maintenance and anything that had to do with the furnace/heater installation. The budget had a very small allowance on the type of heat and AC product or replacement parts but I could find a way to arrange for that with the heating business.
