Getting prepared to save money on the HVAC cooling
Preparation is a key to navigating this life.
It’s taken me much of my adult life to fully embrace this idea. For the longest time, I was always worried that too much preparation would interfere with spontaneity. I thought too much time in the air conditioning planning would result in a very blah life. The opposite is what I have come to realize is true. The better prepared I am for meeting the day or the moment, the more possibility that magic and spontaneity will actually happen. It’s with that thought that I even approach what many consider to be mundane tasks. If you live in this region, the summer is definitely the most expensive time when it comes to HVAC costs. That’s due to the HVAC equipment running day and night trying to cool our homes. Accordingly, if you really want to save on HVAC cooling costs, you have to mind the HVAC thermostat. A reasonable, flexible thermostat setting is the essential part of saving money on utilities in the summer around here. That said, preparing the house for the HVAC cooling allows for that thermostat setting to be even more valuable. This is why I make sure that I have my house as tight as it can be prior to the heat settling in for the summer. The less HVAC cooling that slips out of the house is the less the HVAC equipment has to work. So a bit of preparation will go a long way. And trust me, it’s worth the effort as preparation and thermostat control can result in very significant HVAC savings over a summer.
