I don’t miss renting or the HVAC that went with it

Unlike many of my peers, somehow I was able to own a home the vast majority of my adult life.

Actually, I don’t think I lived in an apartment for much more than a year after college.

I ended up saving up to buy a small cottage with baseboard heating and window air conditioning. It wasn’t easy but, I’m really glad that I chose to buy and build equity from the beginning. Money was tight but I ended up making a good profit on that cottage when I sold it. That was awesome because it allowed me to buy a nice place with good HVAC to start my life with my wife. From there, we bought another place when the kids started coming along. In fact, we just sold that place after upgrading the HVAC. Boy, do I ever miss that HVAC. When we sold that house, we decided to pare down our lives. That meant going into a rented condo for a while. With the kids gone and retirement looming in the not so distant future, we wanted to give ourselves a chance to figure out our next move. So renting seemed the thing to do. That looks as though it is quickly becoming a mistake. I miss the days where I could simply do something about whatever wasn’t right in my home. Don’t get me wrong, I like not having to cut my grass. And having the rental company take care of some issues is fine. However, they are not taking care of the HVAC at all. I have come to the conclusion that this is due to the HVAC not being at all the right size for the volume of the condo.
